2015 Bella's Red
20% New French Oak - 18 months
This is a robust blend that lives up to the memory of the woman it was named after, my grandmother Bella. The nose is bright and crisp with red currant and raspberry fruit. The dominant flavor at first taste is red cherry, mellowing into deep plum. Lovely finish and great mouth feel with soft tannins with make this an evening favorite. Enjoy as a great table wine, wine by the glass and a perfect campfire wine.
Gold - Orange County Fair Wine Competition
The 2015 harvest was earlier than most years. The yields and quality of red wine grapes were very good, as the ongoing drought that affected most regions had little effect on the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County. Winter rains in the region were more normal. Mild winter temperature caused early bud break, but fruit set was not impacted by any severe late spring weather. As we moved into summer, the weather was perfect for ripening and harvest. Red wine grapes exhibited good acidity and ripeness. Our hillside cave aging maintained a stable aging environment for a smooth clean finish on our red wines. Bella Grace Vineyards are in the Shenandoah Valley of Amador containing 19.6 acres of Italian and Rhone varietals. Sustainable vineyard practices are employed always, respectful of the environment. Old and new school farming practices combine to produce wine grapes that have successfully produced award winning wines. We treat each block separately, testing the individual fruit during final ripening for sugar and acid, and often harvest grapes on various dates.
Food Pairing Notes
Because of the terrific acidity, this wine holds its own against robust flavors. Try with traditional tapas, Italian dishes and spicy BBQ. Even great with s’mores!
